Welcome to Spaceport Scotland

It's no longer a dream space travel is opening up on a commercial basis. Various companies are developing spacecraft, and travel agents are selling tickets for journeys.

The first flights will be short just up to the 100-kilometre mark that defines the edge of space but it's clear that this is just the beginning.

This website has been developed to highlight the new frontier that's opening up and the courage and determination of its pioneers and to encourage Scotland to join them.

The opportunity has been made clear by a leader in the field. Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic company plan to start their first commercial space flights in 2011 from New Mexico. They aim to follow up by expanding to various other sites around the world with the RAF Lossiemouth base in Moray, Scotland, high on the list.

Spaceport Scotland is an initiative by people, companies and organisations in the north to stimulate interest in the possible use of Lossiemouth as a location for the UK's first operational spaceport.

For Lossiemouth to become the UK's first spaceport would have a huge significance for the economy of Scotland and particularly for Moray and the Highland area. It's not simply the big boost for tourism, or the opportunities for hi-tech supplies and services. It's the spreading of the spirit of exploration and adventure that's taken shape in the sunshine of the Californian desert at Mojave.

You can help to make it happen.
